Recovering an Item After Leaving Istanbul

What happens if you realize that your laptop is still at Istanbul Airport after you have already left Turkey?

For Cynthia Diaz, solving the problem required more than simply locating the computer. The laptop needed to be collected in Istanbul and then prepared for an international shipment back to its owner.

Cynthia contacted Ana Kurye for local assistance. Once the airport-side recovery moved forward, the next stage was preparing a used laptop for courier return.

Preparing a Used Laptop for International Shipping

The packed laptop was approximately 2 kg with dimensions of approximately 38 x 6 x 29 cm.

Because it was Cynthia's own used laptop rather than a newly purchased computer, second-hand item information was relevant when preparing the shipment. Shipping documents such as a waybill and proforma details also had to be prepared.

DHL and FedEx shipping options were considered, with FedEx ultimately handling the international shipment.

Successful Delivery

After the laptop reached the FedEx warehouse, the carrier processed the shipment and tracking information became available.

Cynthia later confirmed that she had received her laptop. Most importantly, it arrived safely and intact.

This is one example of how an Istanbul Airport lost-property case can continue even after a traveller has already left Turkey. Finding the item is only the first step. Collection, documentation, packing and international return may all need to be coordinated before the property can finally reach its owner again.
