When the authorization process stopped

A customer from Ireland contacted Ana Kurye after experiencing difficulties recovering her lost phone from Istanbul Airport Lost and Found. The phone had been located, but the collection process had become complicated because the necessary authorization documents had not reached the customer correctly.

We contacted the relevant Istanbul Airport Lost and Found department directly and investigated the issue. During our follow-up, we identified an error with the email address being used for the document process.

Airport collection required patience

The airport Lost and Found office was extremely busy, resulting in an approximately 2.5-hour wait. The collection also required additional procedures because the phone needed to be transferred from the airside area to the landside area, together with the necessary customs approval.

Ownership verification before release

During the final ownership verification process, the Lost and Found staff also required the phone passcode. The customer provided the correct code, allowing the device to be verified and released.

After collection, the phone was transported to the Ana Kurye office and securely packed. Instead of estimating the international shipping cost before having the item, we first obtained the phone's real packaged weight and dimensions.

Transparent international shipping quote

A DHL shipping quotation was requested using the actual shipment details. The DHL quotation was forwarded to the customer exactly as received, providing full transparency about the international courier cost.

Following approval, the phone was prepared for international delivery and shipped to the customer. This case demonstrates that an Istanbul Airport lost property pickup can sometimes involve much more than simply collecting an item.
