Collecting a Passport from IGA Lost & Found After Leaving Istanbul Airport
A found passport may still require several steps before it can leave airport custody. In Sasha Darbinian's case, her family was already in Australia and the property was held by IGA Lost & Found. The central issue was matching the collection paperwork to the person who owned the documents.

Identify the airport authority holding the item
This case was handled by IGA Lost & Found at Istanbul Airport. It was not a Turkish Airlines Lost Property case. Establishing the actual holding authority matters because collection procedures can differ.
The IGA record was GMK0344286. It concerned a small black travel pouch containing a passport, an international driving licence and bank cards.
Was courier collection permitted in this case?
IGA confirmed that an authorised cargo or courier company could collect on the owner's behalf, subject to acceptance of the documentation. Sasha asked Ana Kurye to coordinate that airport collection from Australia.
This was confirmation for an individual case. Other travellers should obtain the holding authority's instructions for their own property before arranging a representative.
The contact person and owner were different
Sasha was managing the correspondence, but her husband Nicholas owned the pouch and its contents. The first forms carried Sasha's details, so the owner information needed clarification.
Ana Kurye communicated with Sasha and IGA to ensure the collection documentation identified the true owner. Being the main contact did not make Sasha the owner of the passport.
Checking documents before airport release
The case involved identification or passport documentation, an information form and authorisation or power of attorney paperwork. Ana Kurye followed up directly with IGA several times about the paperwork and collection status.
After the requirements had been clarified with IGA, the local recovery and collection process could proceed. Copies of the customer's documents, signatures and banking details are excluded from this account.
Plan onward transport separately
A collection arrangement does not itself establish which international carrier will accept a passport. Shipping options were being checked for these documents and their destination in Australia.
No specific carrier, shipping date or final delivery confirmation is established by the verified case material. Carrier acceptance needs to be confirmed for the particular item and route.
The customer's feedback on the coordination
Sasha's public review describes the stress of having her husband's passport left at Istanbul Airport while they lived in Australia. She praised Özlem as helpful and professional and described the process as easy and quick.
Arrange help with an IGA collection
Have your found-item reference and the owner's details ready, then confirm IGA's current instructions for that record. Ana Kurye can help coordinate with Lost & Found and review the steps needed for authorised local collection.
